It’s as luxurious as it is flexible.

The mirror reverts to a normal full-frame image/reflection when you shift into Drive or Park.
The Chevrolet Avalanche is the most versatile vehicle out there, thanks to an exclusive Midgate that turns it from an SUV to a full-size pickup with a 2.5 meter cargo box*. The combination of the locking tailgate, three-piece cargo cover and stationary window lets you store items securely within the cargo box and helps protect them from the elements. The ingenious design of the Chevrolet valanche also allows you to transport items up to 1.27 meters wide.
1. With the 60/40 Split-folding rear bench seat and midgate upright, Chevrolet Avalanche is configured as a five-passenger SUV. The lockable top-box storage provides room for your beverages or gear.
2. To begin converting the Chevrolet Avalanche from an SUV to a Pickup, simply lower the 60/40 split-folding bench seat. You can also stow the rear window inside the Midgate to enjoy the fresh air as you drive.
3. To ultilize the full length of the cargo box, just lower the Midgate. You get a completely secured cargo area when the three-piece cargo cover and rear window are in place.
4. To complete Avalanche’s full transformation, remove the rear window and three-piece cargo cover, lower the tailgate and then transport items such as a small quad bike.
*Cargo and load capability limited by weight and distribution.
The Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package is available on the 2LT model and includes specially tuned springs and monotube shocks, high-capacity air cleaner and a Skid Plate Package with aluminum front underbody shield. It also features automatic locking rear differential, body-color wheel flares, 18-inch aluminum wheels paired with on/off-road blackwall tires, recovery hooks and tubular assist steps. The Z71 Off-Road Package offers leather-appointed Ebony seats that can also be accented with Light Titanium inserts, specially designed front fascia with chrome grille insert, Z71 badging and a Z71-specific gauge.
When it comes to space, the Chevrolet Avalanche reigns supreme. The three-piece lockable cargo cover combines with the Midgate to provide a covered storage area for items longer than 2.4 meters. Lockable top-box storage compartments provide up to 48 liters of storage room and the tailgate can be locked via Remote Keyless Entry, providing a safe storage area.
Standard on all Avalanche models, head-curtain sideimpact airbags cover both rows and help reduce the risk of injuries to all outboard occupants in certain side impacts.
Four-wheel antilock disc brakes
Avalanche features two-piston front and enhanced singlepiston rear brake design for reduced noise and an active brake booster system for enhanced pedal feel.
Available Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist features audio and visual signals to help alert you if certain stationary objects are immediately behind your vehicle while you’re reversing.
Standard on all models and included with the Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package, automatic locking rear differential allows additional traction at lower speeds on mud and sand.
Standard StabiliTrakTM improves vehicle stability, particularly on slick surfaces or during emergency maneuvers.
Chevrolet Avalanche features a heavy-duty 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The smooth-shifting automatic transmission comes with overdrive Tow/Haul modes, a Driver Shift Control and also offers improved fuel efficiency
The Vortec 5300 V8 engine under the hood of the Chevrolet Avalanche is all about power, performance and flexibility. The engine generates 231kW (310hp) (net) and 452 N m of torque on 2WD models. Its Active Fuel Management™ technology deactivates four of the eight cylinders when extra power isn’t needed, such as when cruising down the highway on level roads. A smooth-shifting, six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and Tow/Haul mode is also standard.
With Active Fuel ManagementTM from GM, power is delivered when you need it. Here’s how Active Fuel ManagementTM deactivates four of the eight cylinders with seamless precision in the Vortec 5300:
When load demands increase, such as when the vehicle accelerates or travels uphill, cylinders are reactivated to provide eight-cylinder operation.
The powerful 32-bit engine control computer triggers cylinder deactivation based on inputs from vehicle sensors — making deactivation almost undetectable.
In addition, exhaust-noise silencing measures and revised powertrain mounts add to the engine’s overall smoothness.
The bottom line is, the next-generation Vortec 5300 V8 is more efficient in providing the energy to move the vehicle when only four of the eight cylinders are operating.
On 2WD models, Tow/Haul mode and heavy-duty trailering equipment help pull up to 3720kg. Avalanche 4x4 models can tow up to 3628kg. Standard trailering equipment includes a hitch platform, seven-wire harness and a 5cm receiver. The available rearview camera system makes maneuvering easy when hooking up a trailer.
Avalanche trailering /hauling specifications
NOTE: Towing a trailer involves all major vehicle systems of your Chevrolet. Easy and safe trailering requires a properly equipped vehicle, additional trailering equipment and an appropriate trailer. It also requires loading both the vehicle and trailer properly, using safe driving techniques, meeting regional legal requirements and following break-in and maintenance schedules. For more information, consult your Owner’s Manual and speak to a trailering expert at your Chevrolet dealership. To help you understand trailering better, consider these trailering factors:
RGAWR AND GVWR: Addition of trailer hitch weight cannot cause vehicle weights to exceed Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (RGAWR) or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). These ratings can be found on the certification label located on the driver door or door frame.
GCWR: The Gross Combination Weight Rating is the total allowable weight of the completely loaded vehicle and trailer.
MAXIMUM TRAILER RATING: This rating is determined by subtracting the tow vehicle’s weight (curb weight) from the GCWR. When a Base vehicle (curb) weight is used, additional passenger, equipment and cargo weight reduce this rating.
TRAILERING CAUTION: If you don’t use the correct equipment and drive properly, you can lose control of your vehicle when you pull a trailer. Pull a trailer only after you have taken the following steps.
TRAILER BRAKES: If your trailer weighs more than 907kg loaded, then it must have its own adequate brakes. Be sure to read and follow the instructions for the trailer brake controller so that it is installed, adjusted and maintained properly.
HITCHES: It’s important to have the correct hitch equipment. If you’ll be towing a trailer that, when loaded, will weigh more than 2268kg* be sure to use a frame-mounted, weightdistributing hitch and sway control of the proper size. If you have to make any holes in the body of your vehicle to install a trailer hitch, be sure to seal the holes if you ever remove the hitch.

*Maximum trailer rating may be less, based upon powertrain combination.
There are three stages of safety, and Avalanche takes every one of them as seriously as you do. While we can't promise you'll never have a collision, we can promise we've done everything we can to help prevent one and help protect you before, during and after.
StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System helps you stay on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. StabiliTrak also includes Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control for even more assurance. Rollover mitigation helps determine potential for vehicle rollover, such as during evasive maneuvers, and applies brake pressure to the front tires to manage lateral tire grip, reducing the tendency for vehicle rollover. And a Tire Pressure Monitor, also standard, keeps a constant watch on the inflation level of the four Avalanche road tires.
Six air bags are standard in Avalanche, including head-curtain side-impact air bags and front-seat-mounted side-impact air bags. These are in addition to the standard dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger air bags with the Passenger Sensing System. You’re also surrounded by a high-strength steel safety cage and strategically placed crush zones to help absorb and channel crash energy in case of a collision.
